La Carlota was once a thriving settlement known as “Mangkas”.

La Carlota City is my home town, it is a 3rd class city located at the Southwestern portion of Negros Occidental, is home to one of the oldest and most prominent sugar mills in the province.

The rich cultural heritage of La Carlota is manifested through the celebration of the Pasalamat Festival, which falls every last week of April. The Festival is based on the tradition of giving thanks to gods of elements after a bountiful harvest by the ancient of Buglas.

One of the oldest sugar mill in the province it is located in Brgy. RSB, La Carlota City, April 14, 2022.

It is considered as the biggest sugar mill tandem in Asia during its time.

The city is a home to magnificent church. The Church of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage stands at the heart of La Carlota City. It is one of the distinction of being one of the Romansque Architecture design in the region.

Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage is more than 150 years old today. The features of this fortress church are the lavish use of red Silay bricks and coral stones.

It is one of the famous landmark of the city.

The city has a number of tourist attractions also, one of which is the Guintubdan Park and Pavillion. Guintubdan Park is a home for a number of waterfalls, natural springs and giant trees. Also, this pavilion has tuburan that’s what local residents call it – it is a natural spring where people can swim in a cold and crystal clear water. What I like about in this place is the surroundings, you can see a lot of greenly giant tress, beautiful and colorful flowers, the sound of the nature, and the cold and refreshing atmosphere

Me and my family spent our Holy Week vacation in Guintubdan Park and Pavillion. I had a great time in this beautiful and relaxing place with amazing people. Guitubdan Pavillion provides accommodation for the tourist - air conditioned room for Php 1800 good for 4 - 6 person, economy room for Php 1500 good for 5- 8 person and also you can bring a tent and have a payment for only php 100 each tent because there is a camping area. From the accommodation you will have a short walk to the tuburan/spring and they also have a pool near the pavillion but you will take a stairs upward to the pool area.

Also, we had our unplanned hiking to the two recognized waterfalls the Busay Abaga and Twin falls. You cannot just go by yourself in the said falls because it is too dangerous, but you can have a local resident tour guide that can accompanied you to the waterfalls and there is a payment of Php 70 per head. wonderful and amazing weather for you to go hiking in the area is during summer or dry season because the ground is slippery when its wet and you cannot enjoy the amazing view if it is raining because of the fog and clouds. Busay Abaga is about 8 kilometers hike to see the scenic view of the falls and back and for Busay Kapid or twin falls is about 4 kilometers hike to and from the falls.

La Carlota City is such a wonder place that’s it. The overall experience is superb, it was fun, and we enjoy our holy week vacation in Guintubdan Park and Pavillion. The people there was kind and hospitable. This place is a good vacation area for nature lovers, hikers, campers, and adventures ones. A place where you can have a relaxation, refreshment, and an escape for your daily life.
